Project benefits
Glenouther wind farm is being developed by Vestas in partnership with development partner, Force 9 Energy.
Vestas is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of wind turbines with more than 40 years of experience in wind energy. The company is embedded in the Ayrshire economy with a service centre located in Prestwick employing 20 and a turbine technician apprenticeship with Ayr College. Force 9 Energy is an independent, UK wind farm developer, focussed on developing sensitively designed onshore wind farm projects. We pride ourselves on meaningful and ongoing community engagement and are committed to supporting economic growth and collaboration within the community.
At the heart of our approach is a strong commitment to supporting the communities that host our projects, and we are committed to offering a meaningful community benefit fund as part of this development. The ongoing transition to net zero means that the need for clean, low-cost electricity will increase substantially over the course of the next decade. The proposed wind farm, if consented, would make an important contribution to Scotland’s drive to net zero by 2045.
COMMUNITY BENEFIT
The project will be committed to paying Community Benefit at the prevailing Scottish Government recommended rate: currently at a value equivalent to £5,000 per Mega Watt of installed capacity, for every year of operation (anticipated to be 30 years) to help fund community projects. For illustrative purposes, if a 36 MW wind farm is constructed, this would be worth £180k per year (index linked) for local communities, for each year of operation – a total of up to £5.4 million over the project’s lifetime.
This funding will directly support local projects and initiatives, creating a lasting positive impact for surrounding communities.
Proposed turbines
5 turbines which will be up to 200m to blade tip with a total generating capacity of up to 36MW
